If you only take a photo now and again, chances are you\u2019ll spend more time fumbling than snapping, and your lack of familiarity with the settings will also cost you in terms of picture quality. You have thousands of old photos on hard drives, DVDs, memory cards, and cloud storage, don\u2019t you? We all do. Most of them are uncollated, disorganised, and not even named properly. Make a resolution to go through them. But here\u2019s the real catch: Don\u2019t just organise and label. Discard, too.<\/p>\n

If you have ten photos of the same moment? Pick the best one and delete the rest. Any photo you cannot identify in any way, gone. Awful, blurry photos? Disappeared.<\/p>\n
There are two reasons for this. One, you\u2019ll get a better sense of what your weaknesses are as you see them repeated over hundreds of disparate photos, and two, it\u2019s healthy from a mental point of view to get rid of all that cruft.<\/p>\n
Finally, make a resolution to finally sit down and not only purchase or download some real photo software, but learn how to use it. If you can afford to buy something mainstream, like PhotoShop, that\u2019s great. If you need to download something free and Open Source, that\u2019s fine too.<\/p>\n
The key really is to learn the program. Really find out what it can do, what all the sliders and values mean, and how you can use the tools to improve your photos. Make this the year that your photography explodes.
